The Catalina Project, Bungalow Heaven in Pasadena.

This was a detailed historical addition and rebuild project that was a joint project with Green Fir Custom Builders and Gruber Home Improvement. My good friend and business partner, Jim Gohrick and I ran this project together. Jim is the owner of Green Fir and B&J Custom Cabinets, the company that builds our cabinets. We pushed out the back of the main house practically rebuilding and redesigning the entire house while keeping the historical feel and detail. All of the finishes were kept true to the time period.

The bathrooms have hex tile floors and traditional tile details from the early 1900’s. The custom shaker style inset door cabinetry was carried throughout the house. Every room with cabinets had some special custom details, our favorite was the dining room cabinet with the seat in the middle, glass door uppers and walnut tops. The kitchen cabinets are topped with quartz countertops and a traditional subway backsplash. We installed new solid oak floors throughout, all new windows  and doors ( interior, front entry and french doors ). We installed new moldings to match the original from when the house was built. The exterior was sided with wood shingle siding to match the original detail.

Other items we worked on included all new plumbing, replacing most of the electrical and a new panel, building a custom designed rear landing and steps with stone patio, and river rock applied to the rear foundation walls to look like the old foundations. We also built a casitas attached to the rear of the garage that has its own bathroom. This room contains the same finishes, hardwood floors, its own split system a/c unit, solid wood doors to match and much more.

The Pasadena Historical Department has already asked for the homeowner to fill out a packet to register the home for its outstanding historical detailed work, pretty cool. We’d like to thank our entire crew, Susan Pickering for the beautiful pictures, and of course the Howard family for trusting us with their home. Enjoy!
