After a major leak in the wall and the disastrous news that our master bath and walk-in closet would have to be taken down to the studs, I wasn’t sure what to do. Luckily we were referred to Darin of Gruber Home Improvement. From the demo to final finishes, he was there and always available. I now have custom cabinetry, mosaic tile work, perfect lighting with dimmers (including a beautiful over-the-bath chandelier), crown molding, and a shower & free-standing tub WITH a walk-in closet with even more custom cabinetry and shelving. In other words, the master bathroom and closet suite of my dreams. It is much more than I ever expected or even knew was possible. But Darin always saw the vision. From the first day, he suggested designs, lay-outs, and finishes that helped me to see the full potential of the project. Along the way, I met all of his professional contractors, some of them true artists, who put together all the pieces and wired, tiled, and plumbed the pipes. I hired Gruber Home Improvement to completely renovate our condominium on Orange Grove Boulevard, Pasadena this past winter. I met with Darin Gruber for the first time late January where we did a walk-through and had a detailed discussion of what we wanted to accomplish prior to listing our unit for sale by early Summer. Darin provided a detailed plan and timetable for completion of the project starting the first week of March. The overall cost estimate was within our intended budget for this project. His insight into all the design and details was clearly beyond our expectations. We approved the budget and gave full permission to proceed with the complete renovation of our unit including plumbing, electrical, lighting, tile flooring, selection of high end appliances, paint selection, renovation of the out door patio, etc.The project was completed within the estimated 4 month time frame and within budget projections. The place looked fabulous and was in turn-key condition. There was no need for micro-management on our part. Darin handled all eventualities in a timely, proactive and professional fashion. Our unit sold within two days of listing, at a price much higher than any other condos in our association and well above my listing price.Suffice it to say, our experience with Darin Gruber was far above our expectations; painless, pleasant, and professional. Darin did a great job! When renovating, you have to brace yourself for all of the surprises along the way. Darin was always good at providing us with options, some more expensive and some less expensive, which helped us make intelligent decisions that we are still happy with. Also, Darin was on the job site every day, which really helped move the project along. Our renovation involved an old 1930s Spanish-style house with dry rot and other structural issues, an outdated kitchen, and 3 outdated bathrooms. With all this work however, we passed final inspection in one year. We know other homeowners whose projects have been underway for over two years. So we feel very lucky to have worked with Darin. And here is the best recommendation of all—our son hired Darin for another project!
